The track relay teams traveled to the 24-Team Legard Relays at W.T. Woodson, with the boys placing first overall and the girls placing second.
Both teams combined to win four relay events.
Senior Sawyer Ballard, juniors Ashkan Mohammadi and Michael McHugh, and sophomore Luis Rivas won the boys 4×1600.
Senior Corey Gilmore and junior Rashaan Jones won the triple jump relay.
Senior Armando Drain and junior Raj Pilaka won the hurdles relay.
Seniors Jasmin Colon and Sumiya Yates won the discus throw relay.
“We did really well,” said Rivas. “I really think this is a good prediction of how we will do this season.”
Along with the four event winners, the teams combined to earn 11 medals.
Seniors Aren Durana, Nathan Vellayan, and Conor Metcalf with junior Sam Ezersky received a medal in the boys 4×400 relay.
Senior Emily Lopynski, juniors Haley Vaughn and Savannah Barden, and Coleman received a medal in the girls 4×400 relay.
Freshman Claire Niesuma, senior Naimah Coleman, sophomore Grace Gillen, and freshmen Augusta Durham and Ozioma Chinaka received a medal in the girls 4×400. The combined ninth and tenth grade boys relay team of sophomore Austin Moore, Aeron Thai, and Josh Keeley, and freshman Max Gillum received a medal in the boys 4×400.
Seniors Brian Brinson and Christian Gatson, junior Elias Ingea, and sophomore Aeron Thai received a medal in the boys 4×100 relay.
Coleman, junior Kyannah Calhoun, sophomore Kristin Tran, and freshman Claire Niesuma received a medal in the girls medley relay.
Colon and Yates also received a medal in the shot put relay.
Distance coach Joseph Schuler believes the success at the meet will continue throughout the season.
“This meet was a pretty good indicator of the season,” said Schuler. “With the upcoming weather and practices getting harder, we should only get better.”
