The South Lakes basketball teams faced off against Marshall, boys at home and the girls at Marshall over the weekend.
The boys varsity team won 41-31 and was lead by senior Mitch Dempster with 12 points.
The team’s next game is on Tuesday, Feb. 7 against Madison. It will be senior night for the eight seniors on the varsity team.
The girls varsity team won 44-41. Junior Gabrielle Schultz led the team with 15 points and four rebounds.
On Saturday, co-ed swim and dive competed in the Northern Region Swim and Dive Championships. Many athletes and relays qualified for states at the meet.
The girls 200 medley relay of senior Sierra Scoggin, freshman Sabrina Groves, senior Emily Sennett, and sophomore Sasha Avilov qualified for states with a time of 1:52.12.
In the boys 200 free, junior Anthony Barbee qualified for states with a time of 1:46.29.
Scoggin qualified for states with a time of 2:11.11 in the girls 200 IM.
In the Girls 100 Fly, Sennet qualified for states with a time of 57.09.
The girls 200 free relay a relay consisting of Avilov, freshman Kaylyn Macaluso, freshman Madeleine Daum, and Sennett qualified with a time of 1:42.09.
In the girls 100 back, Scoggin and freshman Natalie Obando qualified for states with times of 58.59 and 59.64, respectively.
Varsity wrestlers competed in the Liberty District Tournament on Feb. 4.
Sophomore Josh Forrest became district champion in the 170 pound weight class. Senior Ryan Forrest won his fourth district championship in the 160 pound weight class. The team finished third overall in the tournament.
