The varsity basketball team won the Readers are Leaders Tournament on Dec. 2.
Readers are Leaders is an organization to encourage schoolchildren to read and to foster a better understanding of current events and world affairs. Each week of the season, the basketball teams participate in the program at local elementary schools. The organization sponsored the tournament.
In the first game of the tournament, the Seahawks faced Centerville. The Seahawks won 68- 50.
Senior guard Jordan Francis had a career high with 27 points. Senior guard J.D. Wallace contributed 13 points.
In the final of the tournament the Seahawks faced Oakton. The Seahawks won 63-52.
Wallace led the team with 22 points. Senior Mitch Dempster added 11 points.
“I’m really happy with the outcome of the tournament,” said sophomore forward Clayton O’Neill. “We played great and I think it’s a great start to the season.”
The team faces Westfield on Saturday, Dec. 10.
