On October 11, girls volleyball hosted a Dig Pink match against the Marshall Statesmen in order to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Dig Pink is a nationwide event that can be organized through school volleyball coaches and teams to benefit breast cancer research. The proceeds of each event go to Side-Out, an organization which awards grants to further breast cancer research, help other breast cancer organizations, and assist families who have been affected by breast cancer.
“I like Dig Pink because it brings attention to the cause and it lets people know about breast cancer,” said junior outside and middle hitter Mary Severin.
Varsity volleyball swept Marshall, winning 25-10, 25-14, 25-9.
Junior outside hitter Annemarie Bresson lead the team, scoring a total of 15 points with a combined six aces and nine kills.
“Annemarie played really well,” said Severin. “She is a beast, a real powerhouse.”
The freshmen and junior varsity teams also won their matches.
