This year, cheerleading welcomes two new members to the team, senior Kyle Norfleet and junior Eric O’Brien, the male cheerleaders at South Lakes.
Norfleet, who served as the mascot Simore the Seahawk, and O’Brien have been very enthusiastic about joining the team.
“I love it. It’s the best sport I’ve ever done,” said Norfleet. “The cheerleaders are really amazing people.”
“Cheerleading has been really fun,” said O’Brien. “My favorite part of cheer is when we work on our competition routine because it really pushes me to try my best, and I know that if I am doing something wrong, I have a team mate who will help me fix it.”
Senior cheerleader Alex Humphries feels that Norfleet and O’Brien have made positive contributions to the squad.
“Having guys on the team has been great,” said Humphries. “They really help and are a great addition. They have a different perspective then most of the girls, which helps. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Norfleet and O’Brien joined the team to try something new and agree that joining the team have been a great learning experience thus far.
“From what I can see the girls seem to enjoy having us on the team, but we aren’t treated any different because we have to work just as hard as everybody else, which is a great aspect of cheerleading,” said O’Brien.
“Everyone is so hyped for competition,” said Norfleet.
