With prom, warm weather, and sunshine in the air, the seasonal trend of tanned skin emerges.
The warmer temperature and sunny skies practically beg for shorts, tanks, and crop tops. With the less- than- covered look now in style, many girls are inclined to flaunt their bareness with an all over golden glaze.
There are several ways to achieve this look, including tanning beds, sprays, and oils.
Many people argue that because UV rays from sun exposure and tanning beds are proven to cause cancers such as melanoma, this type of trend should be discouraged. Others reply to these ambiguous threats with the classic, “YOLO,” and insist that controlled tanning can be safe when not overdone.
To me, safety is my number one concern, so I generally avoid bed tanning.
However, because I am not one of the ones at highest risk for skin cancer (red hair, freckles, Irish descent), I do occasionally lie out all oiled up.
To me, a little bit of natural Vitamin D doesn’t seem to cause too much danger. In fact, I find myself at my happiest when I’ve spent some time in the sun. It is proven that Vitamin D, which can be found in the sun’s rays, increases endorphins, the hormone that is responsible for making you feel happy.
It is also human nature to desire to be perceived as attractive, and therefore people are generally more confident when they have a suntan. Because of this, I think that as long as you take into account your personal skin vulnerability, it should be up to the individual to decide what they wish to do with the hue of their epidermis.
