Over spring break I went to the beach. Not the Bahamas or anywhere super nice where the weather is warm and people come back tan, but Ocean City, Maryland.
Luckily for me, I didn’t rent the apartment we stayed in. It was inherited through my friend’s family, so we did not have to pay rent to be there. Almost the whole time I was there it was cold and I was in sweats.
The last day I was there it was slightly warmer, and a walk on the beach was nice, but I saw people in the water. When I went to go dip my toes, it was super cold, and I jumped out and ran away from the water.
I still saw kids playing in water, their lips blue from the cold. The temperature was in the sixties and windy, so the air outside was not much warmer than the water.
At first I thought I was cursed or maybe the weather man was just lying to me. I always check the weather before I head out of town, so I know what to pack. But the weatherman said it was not going to be THAT cold. So, I decided, ok this is good weather, much better than last year.
Then I got to the beach figured out I had packed a North Face, well, more likely my mom snuck it in my suit case. To my surprise, the first day there I needed it. Going to the beach in the off season is not fun, people. Most places are closed, and being closer to the water makes everything windy and colder. So if it is normally in the sixties be prepared for 50-degree weather.
So my question to everyone and myself, is why? Why would you go the beach in cold weather, when you can go to a nicer beach somewhere else where it is warm? Guess what? You do not even have to leave the country to go to a nice warm beach.
That is right, there is a place called California on the other side of our dear country. Don’t want to travel across the country? Fine go to Florida. Even if you happen to catch Florida in its colder season it still has other attractions than a closed boardwalk.
Do not want to fly? Then drive. It is about 15 hours- not even a full day. You can even get there before sunset. Just make sure you leave in the morning. So honestly why waste money and go to a cold beach, when you can waste money and go to a warm one?
