Every New Year comes with new resolutions. Whether it is eating healthier, volunteering more, or getting better grades, the chances of me actually pursuing these goals past February are slim to none.
Literally, I do not think I have ever continued my aspirations after a few months.
However, my theory is that this year I am actually going to follow through on my commitment—mostly because my resolution is probably one of the simplest goals to achieve.
And let me tell you why.
But first, let me give credit where credit is due. A close friend of mine has a hilarious blog that I read and one of her posts recently was about New Year’s resolutions.
What was her resolution? To fail more.
Yep, that is right people. You read that right. She is aiming to fail. And guess what? That is my plan too.
Now before you think I am going to drop out of high school to become a—well—not so respected dancer, let me explain myself. My New Year’s resolution is not to fail at what I am doing now, but things I have not done before.
I cannot tell you how many times I have missed out on opportunities because I was too afraid that I would fail at it, not enjoy it, or just feel awkward doing it.
We miss out on so many chances because we are so comfortable in our little bubbles and never want change.
Wake up people. Change is good! Have you listened to Obama?
Order that new dish at your preferred restaurant. I know it may not be your favorite but who knows? Maybe this one will be your new favorite.
Try on that crazy dress, it may look amazing on you. If I can share one thing with you that I have learned in my sixteen years of life: you never know.
I will be doing it too. I am going to step out of my comfort zone and experience some exotic and slightly weird things I would have never done before.
Something like skydiving, or more realistically, ordering an extra topping on my Chipotle burrito bowl.
Hey, even the small things make a difference.
Because people, in the great words of Drake—you only live once.
