According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of ridiculous is “arousing or deserving ridicule.”
I greatly dislike it when people say that I “rant” too much because it is false. This place called Earth simply has a plethora of events worthy of ranting and that deserve ridicule. So in honor of the conclusion of this year, I would like to highlight the events that make me shiver with irritation and grimace with embarrassment with one final rant.
Ridiculous actions are rampant here at South Lakes. Actions like the creation of a noise that sounds like the blood-curdling screams of a student in agony, as a signal for students to hurry on to class.
I wonder, what would possess the administration to implement such a degrading system? The Seahawk Squawk is essentially the noise of an animal that is ordering me to get to class. That arouses rebellion.
Why should I obey the call of a foreign species that tears at my ear drums like country music? Does the administration believe that the student body is like a robot that responds to noises? This is ridiculous.
Occupy Wall Street is a perfect example of freedom of speech or as I call it, “the right to rant.” Students gathered to shake their heads at a government that is not paying attention to them, but these protesters were met with brutality.
The news showed the horrifying clips of innocent and peaceful students sitting in a line formation being showered with pepper spray by “policemen.” The police on duty claimed that the students were “threatening.” But how are unarmed civilians sitting criss-cross apple sauce on the side walk threatening? I have walked through elementary schools and seen children sitting on the floor but never once have I thought to assault them due to the “threat” that they pose. The actions of these law enforcers were “ridiculous.”
Then, there is our beloved celebrity who managed to end a marriage in 72 days. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this is I never even thought that was possible.
Down in the real world, we all work hard to achieve greatness and or fame. We study hard and try to be honorable people with integrity. Those who we admire are not slackers, short tempered aggressors, or bad idea producers. There is not time for ridiculousness.
Before we as a group, school, or nation can move forward in the New Year, we must cut the garbage.
So as we gulp in our final breaths of 2011, let us aim to eliminate the nonsense for a brighter 2012.
