Readiness, Respect, and Responsiblity.
Those are the three Rs that this school abides by. As Seahawks, we strive to reflect these three Rs through everything we do, inside and out school. However, recent events indicate that some students do not value these traits.
On Wednesday, October 26, physics teacher Stephen Scholla returned to his classroom to find his laptop keyboard smashed, and grading folder gone.
Before we spit judgment on this “criminal,” it would be beneficial for us to speculate what may have driven one of our own to commit such a heinous crime.
Perhaps this student was not in good standing as a result of physics so he or she decided to commit a crime in an effort to be in good standing. Never mind, that makes no sense because spending every SS in physics is better than spending a few months in jail.
Perhaps this student was under an overwhelming amount of pressure from family so he or she decided to commit a crime in an effort to– nope that makes no sense either because the persistent voice in your head saying You can run but you can’t hide… and Yer in big trouble… is far worse than telling Mommy and Daddy that “The physics grade is not lookin’ too good.”
Speculation notwithstanding, the fact of the matter is, we do not know what motivated this person to engage in such regrettable behavior. What we do know is that Mr. Scholla has been greatly disrespected, school property has been vandalized, grades have been compromised, and Seahawk Pride has been wounded.
Instead of celebrating a very exciting spirit week and good first quarter, South Lakes must instead launch an investigation.
So, I urge the culprit or culprits to step forward and confess. And furthermore, if there are any students who know any information I encourage them to speak up.
In the words of Edmund Burke, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
