In response to recent policies and actions by President Donald Trump’s administration, a coalition, led by the Indivisible movement, has organized a series of nationwide protests under the banner “Hands Off!” scheduled for Saturday, April 5th.
Indivisible is a liberal organization in the United States originally formed in reaction to Trump’s victory in the 2016 election. The main protest, led by Indivisible, will be held at Sylvan Theater in the capital, Washington D. C, on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m.
Organizers of these protests aim to build upon previous demonstrations opposing the administration’s initiatives, particularly Elon Musk’s new DOGE project, which has been associated with numerous job and budget cuts.
The “Hands Off!” slogan encapsulates a variety of grievances, including concerns over cuts of the Medicaid program, Social Security, environmental programs, and other systems in place that Trump’s administration plans to remove.
“They’re taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now,” said “Hands Off!” leadership.
In addition to the D.C march, coordinated protests are planned in cities across the country, such as in Austin Texas. Protestors are to gather at the Texas Capitol at noon on April 5th in order to voice their opposition. Further protests are occurring in multiple other cities. Locally, there is a “Hands Off!” protest on April 5th, in Leesburg, at the Loudon County Courthouse. Additional information regarding protest locations can be found on the “Hands Off” campaign website.
As the April 5 date approaches, organizers encourage concerned citizens to participate in a protest nearby, in order to send a unified message to the administration. These protests represent a growing momentum in activists who are increasingly vocal in their opposition to new policies.
