On December 8th, former Yankee, Padres, and Nationals star Juan Soto signed a record-breaking 765 million dollar and 15-year deal with the New York Mets. This contract exceeds Shohei Otani’s agreement with the Dodgers of 10 years for 700 million.
Juan Soto had an amazing season with the New York Yankees this previous year and has proved his excellence over time. In 2021, Juan Soto had his best season while playing for the Washington Nationals. He had a career-high 41 home runs, 166 hits, 128 runs, and 328 total bases along with 31 doubles and 109 RBIs. In last year’s postseason, he had four home runs, nine RBIs, 12 runs, and hit .327.
Now the New York Mets have Soto. He will play amongst Mets stars like Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Jose Iglesias. Soto’s addition to this dynamite group will only make the New York Mets more of a super team and a formidable foe this upcoming season.
Soto may be the key to helping the Mets reach the playoffs. In past years, the Mets have been close to the World Series. The team suffered last year due to underperforming superstars. They should not struggle anymore. Soto brings the Mets the powerhouse hitter and runs they need.
A lot is expected of Soto. There are also questions regarding his contract. Will Juan Soto really play for fifteen years? Will he really stay with the Mets? By the time Soto’s contract ends, he will be 41. Soto has worked with multiple MLB teams over the past four years. Mets fans can only hope Juan Soto remains loyal and becomes a legend in the franchise’s history.
