A friendly area became a crime scene recently after police got a phone call about an ongoing burglary occurring in Southgate Shopping Center.
Southgate Shopping Center is located in Culpeper, Virginia. The shopping center consists of a mall, a Golds Gym, a bank, a Safeway, and various coffee and food shops. It is a place where many people go for day to day needs, like eating, grocery shopping, or just browsing and looking for a place to hang out.
Police responded to the scene and got several eyewitness statements. After a short investigation, it was concluded that the burglars targeted an ATM, stole an unknown amount of money, and caused a great amount of damage to the ATM. Luckily, no one was harmed in the process of the burglary.
When the police arrived at the scene, the suspects fled in their vehicle. The police officers tried to stop it, but were unsuccessful. However, later, the police managed to locate the vehicle in Prince George’s County, Maryland. When the car was discovered, the three suspects that committed the crime were found inside the vehicle, with a lot of discriminating evidence with them, proving their relation to the crime.
Despite the evidence against them, they were not arrested for it on spot, but instead they were arrested for different pending charges. They were detained and taken to jail for those other pending charges.
The burglary is still under investigation and charges are pending in Culpeper, VA.
