With the worldwide success of the sixth season of the “Love Island” reality TV show, fans have learned to love and praise the members of the Villa this season. As the Islanders progress within the show, they aim at finding love with the ultimate prize of 100,000 dollars if voted by American fans.
Throughout the summer they are challenged with a roller coaster of emotions and tests to analyze the relationships created in the Villa. This year, the show is fresh in the minds of South Lakes students as it was the inspiration for the 2025 class shirts.
“This is the best season by far, I would recommend it to anyone. It really encompassed the backstories and beliefs of Islanders which is ultimately how they got along. Once the beef started within the show you can see the parallel within high school drama and how one argument or difference can make or break a relationship,” said South Lakes Junior Kayla Ventura.
However, weeks after the finale of the show 26-year-old Hannah Smith was taken into custody on September 30th at the Coca-Cola Roxy, a concert hall in Cobb County, Georgia. Smith was involved in “disorderly behavior” within the bar and was then escorted out by authorities and an EMS staff member due to her intoxication.
In the released police report, it is claimed that Smith “punched the EMS, making contact on her right arm.” According to authorities Smith was charged with a felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and terrorist threats. Ventura shared her thoughts on the development.
“I was shocked but not surprised it was very disrespectful to those Islanders who were people of color who she made a connection with on the show.”
It has been released that the EMS worker involved was a female African American. This incident has created a rift between the relationship of the Islanders as many fans noticed the loved PPG members, Leah Kateb, Serena Page, and JaNa Craig have unfollowed Smith on Instagram. So far there is not an update on her case other than the statement released by Smith on her Instagram platform.
