Caitlin Clark put on an incredible shooting performance against Indianapolis, breaking yet another WNBA rookie record in the Indiana Fevers exhilarating 110-108 victory over the Dallas Wings. Clark’s 35 point career-high surpassed Seimone Augustus’ long standing record for the most points scored by a rookie in a single season.
Augustus, who set the record 18 years ago with 744 points as a Minnesota Lynx rookie, was finally dethroned as Clark reached 761 points.
Clark made 10 of her 22 shot attempts, while knocking down six 3-pointers, including the record-breaking shot from beyond the arc. She also recorded 8 assists and 2 rebounds, proving her all around dominance on the court. At halftime, both Clark and her teammate, Fever G Kelsey Mitchell, had scored 15 points. Mitchell finished strong to add 30 points of her own to the scoreboard. Fever F Aliyah Boston also made a solid contribution with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Dallas began the game strong, holding a two point lead at halftime. The third quarter saw the teams trading baskets, with Indiana barely ahead by one point at the end of the quarter. However, it was Clark who took control of the fourth quarter. She went on a personal 7-0 run, giving the Fever a nine-point advantage, which was the game’s turning point.
Despite stellar performances from Dallas’ F Satou Sabally and superstar G Arike Ogunbowale, who both scored 27 points, and Natasha Howard, who added 26, it wasn’t enough to beat Caitlin Clark. Dallas had already been eliminated from playoff contention before the game and will finish their season on the road against the Las Vegas Aces next week.
The way Clark is able to take over a game when it matters has really solidified her status as one of the league’s biggest young stars, and this record breaking is just the beginning.
