Fans are shocked that JLO and Ben Affleck are getting a divorce after already splitting up once in the early 2000’s. On Tuesday, August 20th, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after over two years of marriage.
Affleck and Lopez first began their romance in 2002, while working on the set of the film “Gigli.” Not long after they met, they began dating. They then got engaged, and were scheduled to have a big, exciting wedding. They initially postponed the wedding, however, three days before, Lopez and Affleck called it off supposedly due to the pressure of everything.
After the breakup, Lopez went on to marry American singer-songwriter Marc Anthony on June 5th, 2004. They had two children together, Max (16) and Emme (16). They divorced less than two weeks after their 10 year anniversary. Affleck married popular actress Jennifer Garner on June 29th, 2005, until 2015 when they split up. They had three children together. 18 year old Violet, 15 year old Fin and 12 year old Samuel.
Following both of their divorces, Lopez and Affleck decided to remain friends and support each other in their careers. They kept in touch and didn’t create a messy feud. However, in April of 2021, they rekindled their relationship. Not long after that information was rereleased into the media, they were spotted vacationing together in Big Sky, Montana. Since then, they were spotted together in the Hamptons, Miami and California, where the paparazzi captured them holding hands on one of their dates.
The couple’s relationship began to grow more serious and they were both very happy with each other. In July of 2021, the couple began searching for houses together in a wealthy neighborhood of Los Angeles. From there, their families began to hangout together watching plays, movies, and supporting each other. They joined each other on the red carpet and shared many romantic date nights. For Jlos 52nd birthday, Affleck even took her to Europe!
In April of 2022, the happy couple were finally engaged. He proposed with a green diamond engagement ring. A few months later, on July 16, they were declared husband and wife after tying the knot at The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in the romantic city of Paris. Then, on August 20th, they married again at Affleck’s home in Georgia and went on their second honeymoon to Lake Como.
Speculations about the couple’s relationship started after the 2023 Grammy awards show, where Affleck was spotted looking bored while Lopez was dancing. People were starting to think that the couple was having issues and divorce rumors were flying around them. In July of 2024, rumors about the couple taking a break were being spread. It even got out that they were planning on selling their house together.
After a long 22 years of love between the complicated couple, Lopez filed for divorce. By the end of August, the two were officially broken up. It will be interesting to see if this will really be the end for Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, or if their decades-long love story will continue.
