McDonald’s has revived the Szechuan sauce once again. The sauce will be available for a limited amount of time and it will begin selling on March 31st, 2022, according to Yahoo! The sauce will be given for free when ordered alongside a chicken nugget order when requested.
According to Eat This Not That, the Szechuan sauce was released 24 years ago, in order to promote Disney’s popular hit classic film, Mulan (1998). The sauce was on the menu for a month, but was remembered by fans for its splendid taste. The sauce was featured and popularized on Adult Swim’s Cartoon Series, Rick and Morty. It was also reported that “McDonalds sent the creators of Rick and Morty a 4-lb bottle of the sauce.”
The Szechuan had returned once again in 2017, and spread like wildfire on Twitter. People have sold and distributed the sauce off of websites, such as Ebay. The sauce has been bidded on and listed for $5,000 USD. According to New York Daily News, “A die-hard fan of Rick and Morty traded in his 2000s Volkswagen Golf MK4 [in exchange for the sauce.”]
This isn’t the only time when a McDonald’s product has caused extreme hype and controversy such as the McRib. The McRib was first introduced in 1981, and has made occasional returns. Aside from that, the popular sauce will be exclusively available for a limited amount of time on the McDonald’s app.
