The Weekly Wrap Up: COVID-19 News Briefing – June 4
This is the “Weekly Wrap Up,” the Sentinel’s weekly news briefing on everything happening in DC, Virginia and Fairfax County regarding the Coronavirus.
- After successfully reopening to phase one, Governor Northam stated that he is now slowing Northern Virginia’s transition into phase two.
- Southern Virginia transitions into phase two of reopening on June 5, 2020. Phase two includes the following:
- Teleworking and social distancing is still asked to be observed and practiced.
- Restaurants, bars and cafés may now meet 50% occupancy.
- Fitness centers/gyms may open indoor areas at 30% occupancy.
- Establishments like concert venues, museums and zoos may also reopen with these restrictions.
- Swimming pools may also open to indoor and outdoor exercise and diving.
- Hospitalizations have decreased in Northern Virginia, but cases continue to be seen, as the total new number jumped to 951 cases.
- “There were 501 patients treated at Northern Virginia hospitals as of Wednesday — the lowest number since April 14,” stated InsideNova.
- Virginia has now seen a total 46,912 cases.
