Art students to showcase collections during IB Art Show April 8
Art students will showcase their creations in the lecture hall April 8 from 6-8 p.m.
Currently, art students are positioning their artwork.
“We’re setting stuff up for IB exams and uploading our profiles,” senior IB art student Cara Kalinowski said. “It isn’t just IB in the art show. Ceramics and Art 4 students are setting up some pieces as well.”
Each artist has his or her own preferred methodology and techniques as exemplified by the art show.
“Everyone has their own process of creating their artwork,” senior IB art student Sasha Podshivalova said. “Planning out my artwork is very important for me. I plan it out in my sketchbook before creating a larger version.”
Unlike Podshivalova, senior IB art student Sammy Nazam prefers to be more spontaneous with his artwork.
“A lot of the decisions I make when creating my work are impulsive, and if I find out I like it I’ll continue with it,” Nazam said. “I use distinctive brushwork to paint faces and portraits and usually use a lot of different, crazy colors.”
In the same way that Nazam paints portraits of faces, each student’s art collection contains a theme of its own.
“Each of us has a cohesive device for each of our pieces,” Kalinowski said. “We each have our own concept or style, mine was people. All my sculptures, figures, and paintings are of people.”
These students look forward to presenting their collections to the public.
“It’s the fruits of your labor,” Nazam said. “You create work junior and senior year, and at the end you bring it all together, see how much you’ve improved, and how much work you have. It’s nice to show the world what you’ve been working on.”
