A fire alarm went off during the beginning of period 6, interrupting class for over half an hour and disrupting the lunch schedule.
After the event the art hallway was momentarily closed, with rumors that a smoke bomb was set off in the hallway, prompting the alarm.
“It was a smoke bomb,” senior Vinny Venkat said “I heard it from at least five people and it’s all over face book.”
Principal Kimberly Retzer has stated that the cause of the alarm was the fumes of a fire extinguisher that went off in the hallway. No reason was given why.
Retzer has plans to release a letter to the South Lakes community once more information is known.
No culprit has been charged for the event, nor is there any information tying the act to the senior prank.
The lunch schedule for the day changed, with B lunch beginning at 11:25 p.m., C lunch at 11:50 p.m., and D lunch at 12:15 p.m.
Period 6 classes begin at 12:40 and a five minute transition period will allow students to travel to their period 8 classes.
Senior final exams for period 8 will continue as scheduled.
