Kids R First is a nonprofit organization that helps over 19,000 kids including students from South Lakes.
The organization’s main incomes to pay for student materials are three annual raffles and a golf tournament on May 20. Raffle prizes will be drawn on May 20, at the end of the golf tournament.
“Me, Madiha Jamil, and Heather Thomas sell raffle tickets and collect the money,” special education assistant Donna Facciola said. “After we collect the money, we hand them to the treasurer of Kids R First.”
The raffle prizes this spring include a stay at a Cape Cod house for a week worth $3600, a pair of 14-karat white gold studs worth $1450, or a diamond pendant from Aspen Jewelers worth $12500.
Counselors coordinate Kids R First at South Lakes and makes sure students who can’t afford to buy school supplies get all the supplies needed.
The organization sends in supplies in August and the counselors hand out a new backpack that contains pencils, lined-paper, glue sticks, scissors, notebooks, and other school supplies for students in need.
“I think Kids R First is one of the great programs in school,” counselor Madiha Jamil said.
