JROTC’s Delta Company is running a clothing drive for the local Reston homeless shelter May 16.
The company is asking for students to donate gently used clothing to benefit Fairfax County’s 1500 homeless people.
“We will donate the clothes we collect to the Reston shelter next to the Reston Regional Library,” senior Ian Purcell said. “We are encouraging students to give all kinds of clothing. We will even accept sweaters and coats, despite the warmer weather.”
In attempt to end the cycle of homelessness, the Delta Company is also asking for business clothing to donate to the homeless.
“Sometimes homeless people aren’t able to dress appropriately for job interviews,” Purcell said. “This is a way we can help them in the job process.”
As a part of a Service Learning Project, Delta Company is using this opportunity to benefit the community to teach themselves what helping the community really looks like.
Donation boxes will be available May 16.
