Parking permits for next year will be sold to rising juniors on August 30 and to rising seniors on both August 28 and August 30. Permits will be sold in the security office both days from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. These are the only times before the first day of school that student parking permits will be sold. After that, permits will only be sold on the first day of every quarter. Applications will be available in the main office soon and throughout the summer.
Students with more than five unexcused tardies, three unexcused absences, or one full day of unexcused absence between Monday, May 6 and the last day of the school year, June 18, will not be eligible to purchase parking permits until first quarter interims are released, subject to availability. At that point it is highly unlikely that any permits will be left.
The school anticipates selling out during the two days that parking permits are being sold.
“We expect to sell out because this coming senior class is the biggest we’ve ever had at South Lakes,” security officer Mr. Elliott said. “There are about 550-600 students in that class.”
Sophomores will not be eligible to buy parking permits at any point during the 2013-14 school year unless they are pupil placed and have also already obtained their VA Driver’s License.
The cost for a student parking permit decreases by $50 each grading period. Fees for students receiving reduced lunch are $100 for the first quarter, $75 for the second quarter, $50 for the third quarter, and $25 for the fourth quarter. Fee for students receiving free lunch is $20 throughout the entire school year.
In order to receive a parking permit, all of a student’s financial obligations must be satisfied. This includes all past due parking fines and other debts, including those from previous years. Money owed for a parking fine must be paid in cash before permit is received.
Any questions regarding this procedure may be directed to Debbie Walker at 703-715-4502 from June 19 to August 23, 2013. After August 26 all questions may be directed to the safety and security specialist, Brian Elliott at 703-715-4508.
