The Morning Announcement began the day with exciting news.
“It’s Friday”
The declaration was followed by the common phrase, April Fools. Students were forced to realize that it was actually a Monday, Apr. 1.
Later, as students walked to their next class, Psy’s Gangnam Style replaced the usual Seahawk squawk and played loudly to a bewildered audience.
April Fool’s Day, also called All Fool’s Day, is celebrated in a variety of ways around the world, however its holds uncertain origins.
Many believe it began in 1582 when France replaced the Julian calendar with the Gregorian calendar. The prior had begun the New Year on Apr. 1, while the updated calendar changed the date to Jan. 1.
People who followed the old calendar were ridiculed and sent on a fool’s errand or invited to parties that did not exist.
Another theory illustrates how Emperor Constantine allowed a jester to run Rome for a day.
No matter which theory is true, it does not change the fact that the world continues to partake in foolish shenanigans on Apr. 1.
