The deadline to submit the application for the 2013-2014 school year College Partnership Program is approaching Friday March 15.
The program is open to all rising high school students and is designed to prepare and educate first generation college students for the future down the road. The term “first generation college students” refers to, in this area, university or college attendees who are the first in their family to study in the United States.
Ideal traits for CPP members are a desire to learn and study advanced material along with having qualities of leadership in the community.
CPP is classified as a club and currently has 120 members. It is county sponsored and exclusive to Fairfax. Once a month, meetings offer a range of activities including workshops and talks with alumni, with aims to give insight to topics such as scholarships and financial aid.
It [CPP] was started to support students,” said Karen Burke, head of the career center team.
Application criteria include two letters of recommendation, a copy of an unofficial transcript, and a completed application form available at the career center in room 332. Notification of applicants will be on April 30 with orientation and induction into the CPP in the fall of the next school year.
