The choir department is hosting the annual District 12 two day assessment throughout the school this weekend.
Over 1000 students from the participating 36 schools in District 12 will be participating in the assessment. Four university choral conductors and music professors will be the judges for these performances.
“Every school in the state of Virginia takes a turn hosting a district event as part of our shared professional responsibility,” choral director Rita Gigliotti. “This is our designated year to host.”
All four South Lakes choirs will be adjudicated on Friday. Advanced mixed ensemble Chamber Singers performed first at 8:30 a.m. Next, Women’s Chorale will sing at 3:20 p.m. Men’s Camerata will perform at 6:45 p.m. and advanced women’s ensemble, Bella Voce will perform last at 7:45 p.m.
“All performances are open to the public all weekend,” Gigliotti said. “Please feel free to come and support our students and hear the many wonderful choirs from around District 12.”
