Chinese educators from the Triway International Group arrived at South Lakes today to tour the school, observing classrooms and taking pictures.
“We are privileged to have 24 educators from Nanjing, in China, who are here visiting the United States to look at various parts of the educational system,” main office receptionist Liz Knapp said. “They came to see how normal classes operate here, what is available, and what the environment is like here at the school.”
The Triway International Group was created to provide training and visiting programs for Chinese delegations in the United States.
Senior Student Government Association council members Becky Oswalt and Eric O’Brien led the 24 educators and two translators from Nanjing around the school.
“They are here at the school to walk around and see what is happening in every classroom and they want to know what they can learn from your school,” translator Hong Xin said.
As they walked around the school many of the visitors asked questions about classes, after school activities, and the bell system.
“One of the comments they made was, ‘In our school, all the kids just sit and listen. Here, your kids are very interactive in class and participating,’” Principal Kimberly Retzer said. “So it’s a good cross-cultural understanding of the educational policies and educational settings in different countries.”
