South Lakes is currently constructing new water fountains inside the cafeteria in compliance to updates in the building codes.
Students express both positive and negative views on the construction.
One complaint is that the school is wasting money because there are already water fountains outside the cafeteria doors. However, others see this addition as an advantage to students.
“I see no harm in adding another water fountain,” said Principal Bruce Butler.
Butler supports the water fountains and commented positively on their close proximity to the microwave.
All schools in Fairfax County will install water fountains within their cafeterias if they are not already installed.
The new water fountains began construction during the January teacher workdays and are scheduled for completion towards the end of February.
