The newly formed South Lakes book club will meet every green day during the Rewards and Remediation block.
Students in good standing are encouraged to attend the meetings in the media center. The club’s first meeting of the year was held on November 15.
George Mason University professor Laura Horvath is the sponsor of the club and wanted to form a book club at South Lakes due to her love for reading.
“I love reading and talking about books,” said Horvath. “I thought it would be fun to do that here.”
The purpose of the club is to provide an area for students who have a passion for reading to discuss books of interest. Refreshments are also available at the meetings for those who attend.
Sophomore Maya Baumgartner, an avid reader, plans to attend the first meeting.
“I joined because my friends are doing it too,” said Baumgartner.
The next formal meeting is November 29, in which student members will decide on the book that they will read and discuss together. Until then, students can come and read any book that they choose and discuss in small groups.
