Preparations are under way with just under a month to go until Homecoming Week 2011.
The week kicks off Monday, October 17, with Fashion Disaster Day, where students can dress as uncoordinated as they like.
“I’m definitely looking forward to Fashion Disaster Day because I’ll be able to wear whatever I want,” said junior Kaitlin Chittenden.
The following day, October 18, is Around the World Day. Students are encouraged to wear clothing that represents any country around the world.
Wednesday, October 19 is Superhero Day. In honor of this year’s theme, students can show up wearing superhero attire.
“I just went to Disney World and bought a ton of Spider-Man gear, so I’m all set for Superhero Day,” said junior Kit Allgaier.
Junior Anna Pleskow is also excited for Wednesday’s spirit day.
“Superhero Day is a day where I can finally be myself,” said Pleskow.
Students can support their respective classes on Class Color Day held Thursday, October 20.
“Color Day is the day I’m looking the most forward to,” said senior Ariana Kruszewski. “I think it’s the most intense spirit day and one of the most exciting days of the school year.”
That night, students can cheer on their fellow classmates during the 2011 Powder Puff games. Freshmen face off against the sophomores at 6 p.m. Afterwards, the juniors take on the seniors. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
In between the two games, the 2011 Homecoming king and princes will be presented. After the conclusion of both games, the annual bonfire will be held at 8:15 p.m.
Spirit Week wraps up on Friday, October 21 with Blue and Green Day. To celebrate that night’s varsity football game versus Langley, students wear South Lakes colors, royal blue and kelly green.
At the end of the day, the annual pep rally will take place in the gym, where one class will be awarded the coveted Seahawk Spirit Stick.
The senior class is confident that they will be on the receiving end of this honor.
“I’m excited for the seniors to win the spirit stick for the first time,” said senior Sara Dalsheim.
The 2011 Homecoming Parade will begin at 5 p.m. that day, starting at Hunters Woods Shopping Center and finishing at South Lakes. The floats that each class has worked hard to build will be presented before a panel of judges.
This year’s theme is “A Hero’s Homecoming,” and each class will have to incorporate one of four superheroes into their class float. The freshman class has been assigned Captain America, while the sophomores have Superman. Juniors and seniors have Spider-Man and Batman respectively.
The varsity football game against the Langley Saxons will start at 7:30 p.m. The 2011 Homecoming queen and princesses will be presented during halftime.
The week concludes with the 2011 Homecoming Dance in the gym on Saturday October 22 from 8 p.m.-12 a.m.
