Staff security specialist member Traci Waller swapped with former security specialist John Coleman who is now at Herndon.
Tell us a little about your past and what you did before you were at South Lakes?
This is my first year at South Lakes High School and I’m very excited to be here. I’ve lived in Reston for six years and I’m from Texas. I actually came to FCPS as a cheerleading coach, and then I started to work at Herndon on request of the principal in 2000.
What do you want us as students to know about you?
I always would wonder how the students would respond to me. But I just want students to know I’m not out to get them instead to get to know everyone and set a relationship with them. And I’d just like to inspire kids overall.
What are some things you notice that are different at south Lakes than Herndon?
The biggest thing I noticed is that South Lakes has a ton of spirit. But I like both schools just as much.
What do you do in your job, and what inspired you to do this within the school?
I ensure that students are following daily tasks through the whole day. I actually switched with John Collman, so now he is at Herndon High School.
What type of things do you do out of your job?
I am director of the Reston Youth Cheer Program, involved in church, Terraset Elementary School, and South Lakes Boosters. I actually have a business management degree and like marketing and business. I have all sorts of irons in the fire.
What things do you see at South Lakes that were like your High School or were not?
The great spirit here is something that reminds me of my high school. We actually did not have security when I was in high school though. And we didn’t hang out in the halls as much as students do now we all just walked and talked.
