QRU? Teacher and coach Michael Astudillo
This month, South Lakes teacher and former coach MichaelĀ Astudillo is moving on to serve as Assistant Principal at Chantilly High School. Before he leaves, the Sentinel staff asked him to reflect on his time at South Lakes
How long have you been at South Lakes?
Five years.
What courses have you taught at South Lakes?
SGA/Leadership Classes, Computer Information Systems, and Information Technology Fundamentals.
Will you continue coaching sports at Chantilly?
Unfortunately not. I will miss coaching.
How will you use what you know about Career and Technology Education (CTE) at Chantilly?
Using cutting edge technology at every level in working with FCPS is helpful. Working in CTE has always helped me stay current with those kinds of technologies.
Do you do community service outside of school? If so, what?
My family donated clothes every year around the holidays and I have volunteered at Senior Centers.
What are you going to miss most about SLHS?
South Lakes has a big heart. Iām going to miss all the caring students, staff and parents.
What is your favorite memory from your time here?
Seeing the South Lakes Girls Varsity Soccer team beat Herndon for the first time in several years. Also, seeing the Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams win Liberty Conference Championships on the same night last season.
