If Mother Nature had a twitter, then she would tweet about the recent 90 degree temperatures, pollen, sweat, and shorts. It seems that the environment has switched directly from winter to summer, and many students have switched straight from jeans and jackets to shorts and tee’s, with no period in between.
This has upset not only the spring athletes, who must compete with a new kind of weather, but also the wardrobes of many girls.
As a society, we are used to simple 60 to 70 degree weather, where pants and light jackets are interchangeable with tee shirts and shorts. Students need this stable weather change to pull together their wardrobe, but this recent change has caught many jean wearers unaware, leading a few students such as myself to deal with at least one day of uncomfortably hot pants.
This small thing cannot be ignored. I believe that the crazy long winter and sudden summer temperatures are a product of global warming, which I also believe is an unstoppable force. Temperatures will continue their erratic behavior, and I suggest that everyone with a smart phone or a computer to check and double check the day’s temperatures before they go out.
Next week students can see weather ranging from the 50’s to the 80’s, with probabilities of rain. This recent heat burst is not permanent, nor will the weather stay constant for our behalf. In an effort to support wearing comfortable and weather appropriate clothes, I call all students to prepare for what will probably be a spring as unpredictable as the recent winter.
