BET Hip-Hop Awards 2013
BET held its annual Hip Hop awards on Oct 15 with its host Snoop Lion navigating the way through performances, awards, featured skits and the commercials people love to hate.
Out of the 16 performers, most people who originally were expecting Kendrick Lamar’s performance to move the crowd had to admit that Bone Thugs N’ Harmony were a sweet surprise to see on stage again.
While others were interested in all the awards being handed out during the evening, others were focused on only one: Best Lyricist. While three people had a “gut feeling” it would be Mr. 99 Problems himself, Jay Z, others had their votes going for Wale. But Kendrick Lamar took home the award.
“Kendrick is a good rapper because he doesn’t just rap about irrelevant topics,” sophomore Shay Watson said. “He has a way of telling you exactly what he means by his emotions and wording.”
During the night people got to see old school rappers and the younger ones rapping together in harmony or spitting rhymes at each other almost like a lesson that you take with you forever. Iggy Azelea, a younger female rapper, was featured in T.I’s cypher, and while some find her rapping skills good, others beg to differ.
“I listened to her cypher and she’s alright,” Senior Michael Bailey said. “I think she could be better, but she’s good.”
Lil Kim, who hasn’t been very active in social media since her previous incarceration with a penitentiary, showed up on a cypher and left a few people shocked with her new appearance. While some could not focus on her cypher, others were just glad to see Queen B herself spitting her rhymes again.
